Oration Nomination for AusBiotech 2025


As part of AusBiotech 2025, we invite nominations for our prestigious orations, celebrating individuals who have made outstanding contributions to life sciences. These orations recognise visionary leaders, pioneering researchers, and industry trailblazers who are shaping the future of the sector. 

Nomination closes 24 April 2025.


Millis Oration 

Emeritus Professor Nancy Millis was a pioneering microbiologist whose groundbreaking work in fermentation processes and water purity helped shape Australian biotechnology. A trailblazer in genetic engineering, she also played a pivotal role in developing Australia’s biotechnology education, leaving a lasting legacy in both science and academia.

Nomination Criteria 

  • A distinguished scientist, leader, or pioneer in a field of life sciences including biotechnology.

  • Made significant contributions to advancing Australian biotechnology, with a career dedicated to innovation within the Australian scientific community.

  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership, embodying the pioneering spirit and values exemplified by the late Emeritus Professor Nancy Millis.

  • An Australian who has spent the majority of their career contributing to the advancement of the life sciences industry within Australia.

Depaz Oration 

Dr Iris Depaz was a visionary leader, who was dedicated to driving innovation and strategic growth to support the advancement of Australia’s life science industry. With a strong track record in commercialisation, Iris was committed to advancing healthcare solutions and improving patient outcomes for Australians and globally.

Nomination Criteria 

  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership in commercialisation within Australia's life sciences industry

  • A proven track record of successfully translating scientific innovations into viable, market-ready products that drive significant impact on healthcare outcomes.

  • Exhibited outstanding vision and strategic thinking in navigating the complexities of commercialisation, including regulatory, financial, and operational challenges.

  • Contributed to the growth of the life sciences industry, promoting collaboration between industry, academia, and government to enhance the commercialisation landscape.

  • Exemplify the values of innovation, entrepreneurship, and dedication to improving patient care through effective commercialisation.
